EN_ This project was born out of a deep admiration for the work of Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds. Words of Amber, originally a piano composition, resonates with me because of its inherent stillness and the sense of space within the music.
In this interpretation, I translate that serenity to the electric harp (Camac DHC32). Using guitar effect pedals such as the Strymon Big Sky and Walrus Slö, the instrument takes on an atmospheric, layered quality that moves beyond the traditional harp sound.
Visually, the piece is accompanied by a loop of abstract shapes. When projected in a dark space, it creates an immersive, meditative experience where sound and motion merge.
NL_ Dit project vond zijn oorsprong in een diepe bewondering voor het werk van de IJslandse componist Ólafur Arnalds. Words of Amber, origineel een compositie voor piano, spreekt voor mij tot de verbeelding door de serene rust en de ruimte in de muziek.
In deze interpretatie vertaal ik die verstilling naar de elektrische harp (Camac DHC32). Door het gebruik van effectpedalen, zoals de Strymon Big Sky en de Walrus Slö, krijgt het instrument een atmosferische, bijna galmende gelaagdheid die verder gaat dan de traditionele harpklank.
Beeldend wordt het stuk ondersteund door een loop van abstracte vormen. In een donkere ruimte zorgt deze projectie voor een immersieve, meditatieve ervaring waarbij geluid en beeld in elkaar overlopen.
