EN_ Universe originates from a fascination with the vastness of the cosmos and the structures of the outer space. In this series, Nina Doevendans explores the visual analogy between the microscopic and the macroscopic.
As with her later installations like Transcendence and BLUE, the transformation of everyday reality lies at the heart of this work. Common, earthly imagery is dissected and layered through digital manipulation, resulting in a new, abstract composition.
Originally created as an audiovisual projection with an accompanying drone soundscape, Universe has now been translated into a series of high-quality framed stills. These prints capture the essence of the movement in a single static moment, making the abstract textures and the interplay of light and shadow tangible.
NL_ Universe vindt zijn oorsprong in een fascinatie voor de onmetelijkheid van de kosmos en de structuren van het heelal. In deze reeks onderzoekt Nina Doevendans de visuele analogie tussen het microscopische en het macroscopische.
Net als in haar latere installaties zoals Transcendence en BLUE, vormt de transformatie van de alledaagse realiteit de kern van dit werk. Alledaagse, aardse beelden worden door middel van digitale bewerking ontleed en gelaagd, tot er een nieuwe, abstracte compositie ontstaat.
Hoewel Universe oorspronkelijk werd gecreëerd als een audiovisuele projectie met een bijbehorende drone-soundscape, is het werk nu vertaald naar een serie hoogwaardige, ingekaderde stills. Deze prints vangen de essentie van de beweging in één statisch moment, waardoor de abstracte texturen en het spel tussen licht en donker tastbaar worden.
