EN_ Focus is a triptych of video screens in a 5:4 ratio, exploring the boundary between macro videography and abstraction. In this work, the pace of nature is extremely slowed down; movements from the micro-world are stretched into a slow motion that forces the viewer into stillness.
The compositions constantly shift in depth of field. This continuous change of focus creates a succession of new balances within the frame, where each individual frame stands as an autonomous composition. Without the distraction of sound, Focus invites a meditative way of observing, magnifying the smallest details of the natural world into a new, abstract universe.
NL_ Focus is een drieluik van videoschermen in een 5:4 ratio, waarin de grens tussen macrovideografie en abstractie wordt opgezocht. In dit werk wordt het tempo van de natuur extreem vertraagd; bewegingen uit de microwereld worden uitgerekt tot een trage slowmotion die de toeschouwer dwingt tot stilstand.
De composities verschuiven voortdurend in scherptediepte. Door deze constante verandering van focus ontstaan er telkens nieuwe balansen in het beeld, waarbij elk frame op zichzelf een autonoom kunstwerk vormt. Zonder de afleiding van geluid nodigt Focus uit tot een meditatieve manier van kijken, waarbij de kleinste details uit de natuur worden uitvergroot tot een nieuw, abstract universum.
